Default Mods For Rangers?

I am kinda new to the ranger professions and I am curious as to what mods are best for a ranger? Rangers seem to rely heavily on conditions so I think that mods that extend your conditions are the best but I'm not really sure. So what mods are good for a ranger?

yea, whatever condition you are using benefits nicely from it. Vampiric or zealous are always good. Fire and ice versus the specific weaknesses is good too.

Vamperic Mods are great for a Barrager. What's also nice is Zealous.

Generally....yup, ur right. I have a poisonous mod on my bow, cuz i almost always have [skill]Apply Poison[/skill] on my bar when i'm not trapping; although you can still carry it if you have [skill]Viper's Nest[/skill] on your bar and don't want to spec that much into Beast Mastery. Also, a silencing mod is great if your elite skill is [skill]Broad Head Arrow[/skill]. (owns in PvE. seriously).

You're suffix mod is really up to you. I'd prefer a bow grip of fortitude or shelter.

If your secondary is Ele, then have an elemental bow grip, spec a fair amount of points (eight is good) into your chosen element, and have a bow grip of enchanting mod.

15^50 is always good....and customize your bow.

I would recommend to only use a Vampiric or Zealous bow when you use Barrage or Volley. In almost any other case, I wouldn't use it. A vampiric shortbow is my only exception because the refire rate of all other bows are too slow.

I am curious as well. I have been away from this game since alittle before the release of the first expansion. So yes quite some time and I do not recall very much.

So I got a few questions in regaurds to mods as well.

1. Is there a site that shows all weapons and mods like a database. Where I can see exactly what the maxium cap is for each mod. (For instance I found a 33% longer poison (Bow String?) maybe it was a grip. But I am curious what the max percentage for that mod is basically. As well as some other mods I have that are not all related to bows.

2. I also noticed that Bows also come with a base mod some times that can not be extracted. So all together a bow can have 3 mods on it. or?

3. Ok if someones selling one of those inscription bows. Since I only currently have prophecies, And I do not see a " you need such and such expansion" requirement on those weapons. Can I use them if I buy one form another player?

Thanks Jay

The cap for lengthning the duration of all conditions is 33% while the cap for reducing the duration of the condition is 20%. Find more info here...

Yes a bow/all weapons have 3 mods, one Inherant Mod (or inscribable depending on where you found it), one prefix and one suffix. In this instance a bowstring and a bow grip. Find more info on the links above.

You may buy them, but you can only use them on weapons with an inscription slot. Although these can be bought from other players too

Hope this helps ^^

@Wakka: I don't think the cap for condition reduction is 20%. It has to be much higher. For example, if you run a daze reduction shield mod and a daze reduction rune, I believe they stack. Purifying veil/featherfoot grace/other skills work on top of that afaik but I don't think you can hit 100% without using AoM.

All strings are maxed, I've never seen anything but a 33% increasing mod. Bow grips differ, slaying is, I think +15%, AL maxed at +5 general or +7 specialized, health +30 and +20% enchantment increase. For intrinsic (inscription) bow properties, +damage is either capped on +15% with an easy to meet precondition, or +20% with a rare precondition like health <50%, +15% compensated with -5E or -10AL and there is the +5E inscription.

Personally, I've never been a fan of poisonous or barbed bowstrings. The only time I can see them being more useful than some other type of string is if you are purposely trying to spread a condition around by targeting one foe after another. But this tactic is not very successful in my humble opinion. You spend too much time switching from target to target for it to make a big enough difference - especially when compared to focus fire with a Vampiric or Sundering string.

If you're not spreading the condition around, it makes even less sense. If, for example, you are using [wiki]Apply Poison[/wiki], then every shot that hits poisons the target. You hit them again long before the poison runs out, so making it last 33% longer does nothing.
Even when using something like [wiki]Poison Arrow[/wiki], the poisoning lasts longer than the recharge time of the skill, so you can hit them again before the poison runs out. Again, you would do more damage overall by using a Vamp or Sunder string.

I'm not a fan of Zealous either. Unless you use it with Barrage or Volley, the energy gain barely equals the -1 degen. Even when used with Barrage or Volley, the energy gain can effectively be gotten by having enough in Expertise. Again, using Vamp or Sunder does more damage in the long run.

So, the only strings I would suggest would be:

Elemental (fire, icy, etc.) - only when combined with the appropriate Conjour or skills such as Spinal Shivers.
Silencing - has somewhat the same problem as poisonous or barbed, but may be more useful (the jury is still out )
Vampiric - only problem being the degen when you're not attacking (needs to be switched out)
Sundering - good all-round damage output. Simple, but elegant.

Ah good point mate perhaps your right ^^ I forgot about the rune was thinking only of the shield but might be worth testing

Not quite so true, it is possible to acquire a non-perfect vamp string, or at least it was

There are 4/-1 Vampiric strings as drops, as well as 1/-1 from Balthazar faction. There are also imperfect Sundering strings.

As for bowstrings go, I usually use one most related for my build. If I run this[skill]crippling shot[/skill] I use a crippling bowstring.

As for bow grips I use a fortitude mod.
